The SDG-House Drenthe is located at the location of the Alfa College in Hoogeveen. That’s no coincidence. The strategic policy of the Alfa College focuses on the permanent social development of the student, and shaping this development together with a strong region and thus adding value to a better world. A number of developments are underway in order to live up to these statements. The building, which dates from 1964, has been drastically converted to circularity, with regional companies and students working together to discover what circular renovation means. Almost gas-free thanks to energy from PV panels, the use of materials with a limited ecological footprint and a program to make residents aware of the responsible use of energy and materials. In addition, an outdoor area has been created that should above all be an attractive place to stay for students, but also an environment that is designed to also give insects and birds a good place. Biodiversity has been the leitmotiv in the design. To create more value together for a better world not only from a technical perspective, the SDG goals are an excellent stepping stone to be able to apply Sustainability in all its aspects in all vocational training. This makes students and staff ambassadors for the region.

On the campus, we focus on SDGs 4,5,8, and 10 — promoting growth, work, and opportunities for everyone. We give substance to the objectives of our founder SBI Formaat by organizing activities, education, and training in collaboration with various organizations. At our location, you can see the Sustainable Development Goals in concrete terms. For instance, we are working on sustainable energy, vegetarianism is normal and we are making the waste flows more sustainable.
